America's 400th Anniversary

British Committee Terms of Reference

 

The British Committee is dedicated to the development and implementation of programmes and events that highlight the historic and continuing ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. These ties will be reinforced during the Commemoration by visits from members of the British royal family, British government officials as well as other prominent British citizens, leading up to and during the anniversary year.

Specifically, the British Committee will:

  • Ensure a suitable British observance of the Jamestown 2007 anniversary, including the co-ordination of official representation;
  • Facilitate European involvement in the anniversary observances;
  • Assist in ensuring that anniversary observances are inclusive and appropriately recognise the experiences of all people present in 17th century Jamestown;
  • Assist in developing anniversary events and activities;
  • Assist in the development of heritage tourism and economic benefits resulting from the commemoration;

    and
  • Support and facilitate marketing initiatives, such as issuance of commemorative stamps, which raise awareness of Jamestown and the commemoration.
